Despite being a fan of the photography produced by Marco Malattia of ‘VLF laboratories‘, I’d never actually had the chance to watch any of his film based work. Admittedly, this was largely due to a strong sense of skepticism regarding the content, and uncertainty as to whether I’d find any enjoyment in viewing it. But after being contacted by Marco, he kindly offered to let me review his trio of shorts entitled ‘Channel 309’, so of course I accepted.

If you’re familiar with ‘VLF laboratories‘, or simply aware of their work, then you’ll likely have some idea as to what to expect from ‘Channel 309‘. Within seconds and without warning, the viewer is thrust immediately into incredibly extreme pornographic footage that will likely appall and disturb most viewers. In watching, you’re subjected to an endless barrage of sexual perversion, sadistic imagery and an amazingly manic soundtrack.

There isn’t a single aspect of this film that could be deemed pleasant or acceptable by the standards of most people. However, whilst a mass of people would undoubtedly consider what Marco Malattia has created to be nothing more than senseless perversion, there will surely be a select audience who will see the true beauty of what has been created here.

Whilst watching, I became increasingly drawn in and almost enchanted by the harsh thumping and screeching sound effects featured in each of the three episodes. The soundtrack consistently succeeded in bringing a whole new dimension to the film, contributing colossally to making this an undeniably unique experience. The way in which the soundtrack was coupled with the almost entirely black and white, frequently distorted imagery, tied everything together very impressively.

The total lack of colour for the vast majority of the three shorts could prove difficult for some to cope with, especially when the picture becomes increasingly degraded. However, it’s important to remember that this is exactly the vision Marco Malattia will have had, and the effect it has in making ‘Channel 309’ an even more enduring experience doesn’t go unnoticed.

The complex, and comprehensive editing throughout the three episodes has proven to be some of the most effective editing I can recall ever seeing. Despite containing extremely perverse content that can make the viewer very uncomfortable at times, the way in which each of the episodes is constructed is very aesthetically pleasing.

Everything about this demented insight into extreme pornography is totally unlike anything you’ll have seen before. The boundary-pushing sexuality, satanic imagery, self-harm and ritualistic situations all collaborate stunningly well. Marco Malattia, with the assistance of all those involved, has formed one hell of an experience that’ll definitely test the limits of most viewers, so i’m doubtful anything could completely prepare you for the hardcore BDSM ritual that is ‘Channel 309‘.

Three beautifully disturbing shorts that I enjoyed far more than expected due to the stunning editing, originality and flawless soundtrack. Really pleased to have been given the opportunity to watch, and I look forward to seeing Malattia’s future projects.
